Mystery injury man unidentified after Gallup Dominos incident
A bleeding man wandered into a Gallup Dominos around 11:20 p.m. Tuesday and was taken to Gallup Indian Medical Center. Police said he was intoxicated, had no ID, and could not explain what happened. He was released to the detox center after treatment, leaving his identity unknown. Dominos staff reported he asked to tell his wife and children that he loved them if he died.

Grand jury urged to probe McKinley County jail
The McKinley County Sheriff's Association asks for a grand jury investigation into the county jail. They want the panel that will probe the November 1997 death of Paul Fitzferrell to also examine overcrowding, long term housing of out of state prisoners, and why sheriff's personnel are kept out of the facility. The association plans to send letters to District Judges Joseph Rich and Grant Foutz to seek the hearing.

Christmas shoplifter to face trial in Gallup area
Ronald Francisco, 24, of Window Rock, released on bond after a magistrate ordered a jury trial for felony shoplifting of more than $800 from Wal Mart. The Dec 15 incident involved two accomplices who allegedly walked away with gifts during holiday shopping.

Kathy Tanner, who built a six year toy window display in Gallup, awoke to find a 30 inch reindeer and 28 inch sleigh stolen from her front yard. She suspects malice and hopes the thieves have a Merry Christmas despite the loss. Local police were notified, but she doubts recovery.

Hopi High to host NPC branch near campus next year
Hopi High School in Polacca prepares to host a Northland Pioneer College branch after environmental and archaeological work on the north campus. If Hopi Tribal Council approves the lease, BIA signing and bids will follow with construction possibly starting in May or June and finishing by December. The campus plan includes 11,000 square feet, three classrooms, EMS and science rooms, two computer labs, a student lounge and more, expanding local college access for students already earning 18-21 high school credits through the existing partnership.
