Fire damages half load at Truck Stops of America
Fire in a truck trailer at Truck Stops of America in Gallup destroyed about half the furniture load. The alarm came in at 6 58 a m. Investigators continued to probe the cause as no damage estimates were available at press time.

Denetsosie Joins Federal Mineral Royalties Panel
Louis Denetsosie Navajo deputy attorney general will serve on a 31 member Royalty Management Advisory Committee overseeing mineral royalties. Baskets of Brotherhood helps Gallup families at Christmas
About 130 needy families in Gallup received Christmas food baskets through the Baskets of Brotherhood program. Rev. Bob Williams of Westminster Presbyterian Church and Gallup Rotary Club checked baskets at the Gas Company of New Mexico distribution point as many clubs churches businesses and individuals contributed to the effort.

Holiday traffic toll to range 150 to 250 in Chicago
AP reports the National Safety Council predicts 150 to 250 deaths on highways during this year's two day Christmas period. As of 1 am EST seven deaths had occurred. The council expects 7400 to 12600 disabling injuries during the holiday window from 6 pm Monday to midnight Wednesday. Last year’s four day Christmas holiday saw 537 deaths. The council urges seat belt use and proper child seats to reduce injuries.

Plane Hits Mall In Fog Toll Rises To Three Dead
A private Beechcraft Baron crashed into the Sun Valley Mall in Concord California as Christmas shoppers gathered to see Santa. Three people died and 59 were injured as flames and debris filled the crowded area. The plane was on an instrument approach to Buchanan Field in heavy fog when it struck the roof. Police reported the dead likely the pilot and two passengers, though identities were not confirmed. Fire sprinklers doused the flames and water flooded parts of the mall creating an indoor lake. Emergency crews from across Contra Costa County rushed victims to hospitals as authorities worked to identify all aboard. See crash.
