Brownfields initiatives move forward in Northwest New Mexico

Northwest New Mexico Council of Governments announces three brownfields projects funded by a 1 million ARRA grant. The effort aims to protect public and private investments by reusing vacant or underused industrial sites in the region. The ARRA funds back the Northwest New Mexico Brownfields Assessment Coalition, a first of its kind nationwide.

Navajo Nation police sweep Sundance to round up stray dogs two weeks planning. The operation, sparked by the December death of Larry Armstrong, used a fleet of pickups and four officers with help from six Ani-See Rez dogs units. The effort cleared the area for the day.

Drugs gift wrapped for Navajo police thwarted smuggling ring

The Navajo Police report several Christmas wrapped drug seizures near Sanders and I-40 including eight gifts found in a Boulder Creek suspect’s trunk with six marijuana packages and two cultivation guides. Latoni Armstrong and Ebony Atkins were detained with about 50 pounds of marijuana hidden in four boxes. Officer Brown used a K 9 to aid arrests. A Tolani Lake man and two others faced related charges. In Winslow an assault left a man with major head trauma and a nose bite case at Shiprock prompted FBI and Navajo CID involvement.
