Gallup and McKinley oppose proposed gross receipts cut
Gallup city manager and McKinley County officials join the Municipal League of New Mexico in opposing a state proposal by Sen. Manny Aragon to reduce gross receipts tax distributions to municipalities by one eighth of one percent. The cut would affect about 200 million dollars yearly city and town receipts.

Navajo Council Debates Local Governance Act

Bomb threat closes Zuni High School half day
Zuni High School evacuated after a bomb threat just before 9:30 am forcing an early departure for Christmas break. Zuni Police and Fire Departments searched the building with no devices found. Superintendent James West noted it was the first threat in three years. earlier this year the Zuni Tribal Building was closed by a bomb scare.

Gallup stores treed off looking for a Christmas tree
Christmas tree shortages hit Gallup stores with no stock at Safeway K Mart Albertson s Wal Mart or Holiday Nursery. Managers said shipments sold out early with 1800 2100 trees bought by the Big Five and all gone before midweek. Live trees ranged from 18.95 to 30 dollars with many unsold last year.
