Area legislators heard a holiday wish list Tuesday night at the Gallup Public Library from school district city and MACOG officials. Proposals covered sewer water improvements, municipal power plants, detoxification programs, planning districts, school board terms, school finance and other items. City officials urged stronger detox programs. calls were made for extended detox time and work programs to aid sober reentry.

Court Upholds U Water Rules in New Mexico

Arizona Schools Will Bar Indians From Out-of-District
Four districts Flagstaff Holbrook Winslow and Snowflake said they will bar out-of-district Indian students after the school year ends over a funding dispute with the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The BIA has ignored a Dec 15 deadline on a joint ultimatum seeking tuition payments over the last two years totaling more than 150000 dollars. Kerr Mining Death Is Ruled Accidental
Kerr McGee miner Timothy K Thompson 30 of Crownpoint died December 13 after a 62 foot fall while sinking a shaft at Church Rock I East. State inspector Joe Longacre ruled the death accidental and urged Kerr McGee to strengthen safety practices based on testimony from witnesses.

Gallup Miner Dies In Accidental Haulage Collapse
Gallup man George Morales, 24, died when an ore hauler toppled at United Nuclear at about 6:30 a.m. on the 1500 foot level. State mining inspector Joe Longacre said Morales was ejected as the hauler tipped. A separate incident in the shaft near an air hole led to a fatal fall by Thompson while using extended safety leads.
