Udall Cancelled JUA Visit Delays Navajo Hearings Plan
U S Rep Morris Udall postponed his Monday trip to the Navajo Hopi Joint Use Area due to bad weather. Navajo officials hope he will visit in February or March to see relocation and livestock reduction impacts and potentially hold hearings on the life estate amendments linked to the 1974 Land Settlement Act. Percy Deal of the Navajo Hopi Land Dispute Commission said Udall promised a visit and hearings, with plans to meet about 18 relocatable residents and observe conditions in White Horse Teesto and Big Mountain. Udall previously opposed the 1974 legislation authorizing relocation and fencing in the JUA.
