Bill lets San Juan-Chama water store in Elephant Butte

The House approved a bill allowing San Juan-Chama water users including Albuquerque and Santa Fe to store water in Elephant Butte Reservoir for future needs. The measure, already passed by the Senate, goes to President Reagan. The case stems from a 1970s and 1977 legal battle over water rights and storage as the 10th Circuit previously voided a 1979 storage contract with Albuquerque.
