Zuni elects two religious leaders as political heads
Arlene Quetanki Sr. and Willard Zunie won Zuni tribal leadership seats Tuesday night by 84 votes over incumbents Norman Copeyate and Dancy Simplicio. Quetanki’s team totaled 724 votes to 640 for Copeyate’s group. Both winners belong to the Zuni Manure Fraternity and the Kiva of the West and credited their religious involvement with influencing voters during Shalako weekend.

Gallup man charged with beating 3 month old baby
Ryan Garcia 18 is jailed in Gallup McKinley County Detention Center on a child abuse charge after authorities found bruising on his 3 month old son.
