Mine to train workers for Nose Rock development, employing about 30 during shafting and 60 during production. Hearing Set Into Mine Death At Kerr McGee Church Rock
The State Inspector of Mines will hold a hearing Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Gallup into the death of Timothy K. Thompson 30 of Crownpoint who fell 65 feet at Kerr McGee Church Rock 1 East shaft. Thompson employed since April 26, 1978 had shaft sinking experience. Two state deputy inspectors and MSHA officials continue the investigation. In Aztec a Kirtland woman Lovie L. Smith 46 pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the shooting death of her husband and was sentenced to 2 to 10 years then collapsed in court. District Judge Jamies Musgrove remanded her to custody. Also two cave-in deaths at Johnny M Uranium Mine near San Mateo were ruled accidental. Ranchers Exploration and Development and H N G Oil Co ordered to change mining methods with a cease work order until addressed. Swaiue Kuoppala and Clarence Mack Gibson died in the cave-in.
