Gallup Cracks Down on Delinquent Utility Bills

The March action to curb overdue payments reduced city utility debts from 550000 to about 170000, a drop over 65 percent. City leaders say lax policies and 60 day postponements previously allowed late payments, and the May 1 policy set 14 day payment terms with disconnection possible after seven more days.
