Weather kept most balloons grounded as 80 pilots from California, Minnesota and Michigan registered for the 6th Annual Red Rock Balloon Rally in Gallup. Organizers renamed it the Wet Rock Rally, canceled Sunday flights but allowed risky lift offs, while pilots shared brief flights and spectators enjoyed parades and a light awards gathering at El Rancho Hotel.

Navajo College Aid Nears Seven Million Dollar Total
Navajo Tribal Chairman Peterson Zah announced that the Navajo Tribe's college financial aid program for fiscal year 1987 has received 6.8 million dollars in federal funds, the highest yet and about 1.2 million more than last year. The funding could raise the number of Navajo students attending college by up to 400, boosting total college attendees to around 4,300 nationwide.
