Navajos light first official Christmas tree in Window Rock
The Navajo Nation held its first official Christmas tree ceremony in Window Rock Arizona with St. Michaels High School choir, a Navajo prayer by Oscar Detsei, and gift bags of fruits for children. Coordinator Waylon Penalty spoke about reflecting Navajo values of understanding and caring as the tree glows. The pinon tree near White Clay was cut from Navajo forests and may be transplanted to the Navajo Nation Museum grounds next year to become a permanent yearly ceremony seeking unity and harmony.
