Navajo Leaders Press Federal Officials in Albuquerque Meeting

President elect Zach and Vice President elect Plummer met two hours with U S Interior officials and Governor elect King to press Navajo projects. Navajo bootleg sting nets 13 arrests in Chinle and Tuba City

Navajo police and Hopi help conduct a bootleg liquor sting in Chinle and Tuba City last weekend, arresting 13 people. About 50 wine bottles and 325 beer cans were found, with 4 000 to 5 000 dollars in liquor seized. most suspects face charges of delivery and possession of liquor.

Citibank probes after layoffs at Tuba City branch

The Citibank branch in Tuba City is under FBI led embezzlement and bank fraud inquiry following the dismissal of four employees last month. No charges filed. Citibank says new manager Mike Sventek from Prescott. two positions still to fill and temporary staff are ensuring service continuity.

Skeleton found at Lyman Lake near St Johns Arizona

Local walkers found a partly exposed human skeleton at Lyman Lake after it was drained. Kevin Weber of Lyman Lake State Park says the bones are in good condition, likely modern or historic, not prehistoric. Dr. Charles Hoffman of Northern Arizona University will examine the skeleton and nearby prehistoric sites next weekend. If modern, the case goes to Apache County Sheriff's Office.

Jury awards snow stranded women $2.5 million in negligence suit

A Maricopa County jury apportioned fault 58 percent to the state and 42 percent to two skiers, awarding Jami Goldman and Lisa Barzano damages for frostbite after being stranded nearly 10 days on a snowbound Arizona Highway 873 near Springerville. Goldman received about 1.85 million and Barzano about 732 thousand after fault adjustments.

New law frees 75 Salvadorans

The Immigration and Naturalization Service says it released 75 Salvadorans from custody in anticipation of a new form of legal residence. The group may qualify for Temporary Protected Status under the new immigration law signed last week.
