Navajo elects Zah as president after official certification
Peterson Zah was certified Navajo Nation president elect over his running mate Peterson Zach Marshall Plummer on the eve of his 53rd birthday. Final counts showed Zah 23 941 votes with Haskie 16 736 and Lee 12 002, plus 2 141 absentee ballots and 1 825 total ballots not counted. Grievances were dismissed or slated for Navajo Supreme Court review, with upcoming hearings set for December and a Teec Nos Pos election date.

Gallup motorcyclists from across the state joined 65 riders for a Toys for Tots fundraiser parade. About 150 toys and over $500 were collected, with event leaders noting the drive fills Marine Corps gaps in Gallup and improves the riding public image. A fiesta and native dances followed at Ford Canyon Park, and a free skating day on December 16 will further benefit the program. Donations can be dropped at three local sites.

Kayenta faces sales tax debate in township project
A Kayenta survey shows a majority favor a sales tax if funds improve town services while opposing propane and groceries taxing. The 120 resident poll is part of a five year Kayenta Township Pilot Project started in 1985, aiming to shape land use zoning and a township government. If approved, Kayenta would become the first reservation town with a sales tax and first to adopt both chapter and township systems. The town has about 5 000 residents and the greater area around 20 000.
