Smokey Bear balloon visits Church Rock students
Smokey Bear made a big appearance at Church Rock with a 97 foot tall balloon and 120000 cubic foot envelope. Volunteer firefighters laid out protective ground cloth as 350 students watched the launch directed by pilot Bill Chapel. The balloon, built in 1993 by Aerostar International, weighs 1171 pounds with basket and tanks and is funded by sponsors and donations including Public Service Company of New Mexico.
