Two New Mexico state commissions will hold a Gallup public hearing on health care costs care for the poor and uninsured and long term care planning on December 11 at 5 30 p m in the Gallup Public Library. The hearings form part of a statewide series to gather information and inform recommended strategies.
The Low Mountain Chapter of the Navajo Nation endorsed Chairman Peterson Zah's bid for re election at a 200 plus attendee appreciation dinner in Low Mountain Arizona. The chapter voted 175 to 0 urging Zah to run, praising his projects and ongoing tribal programs though the endorsement was informal. Zah did not announce a candidacy and plans to discuss with family before deciding.
Kristy Schwartz and Keri Hodson of Chinle High School were elected regional president and parliamentarian of the Arizona Vocational Industrial Clubs of America. Sharon Harrell, a nurse aide instructor, was named to the VICA state board of directors, giving Navajo students a say in state decisions. The Chinle club serves about 350 students in five areas including nurse aide and cosmetology.
Gallup water service was cut for more than six hours on Saturday after noon and evening as crews searched for a leak in the North and South Grandview area and East Green East Aztec East Hill and Donna Jean Drive. Tanks on South Second Street were nearly empty as pumps sent water east and west. officials did not locate a leak and water was restored about 9 p.m.
The fifth annual Red Rock Balloon Rally will be held this weekend at Red Rock State Park near Gallup. Balloons ascend at 7:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday with activities for balloonists and the public throughout the weekend. Local organizations sponsor concession booths and food and drinks will be available, and Gallup’s Christmas parade is among weekend events.
Civil Air Patrol widens the search area between Gallup and McGaffey Lake for the single engine Cessna 182 carrying state police Sgt. Al Leroy and his wife Sandra, believed to have gone down after failing to reach Gallup from Las Cruces. Snow and weather hamper air and ground efforts as 70 plus volunteers join the hunt around McGaffey and El Morro areas with radar and dog teams assisting.

AP reports five people died in New Mexico crashes and at least eight in Arizona during the Thanksgiving holiday. Names include Sandra Pacheco 15 from Belen and Reinhard Jager 37 from Roswell in NM, plus Maria Lilia Rodriguez Sanchez 28 and her son Martin in Arizona.
