Heating bills to rise for New Mexico residents this winter

New Mexico residents can expect higher heating costs as natural gas prices rise nationwide. PNM Electric and Gas Services spokesperson Julie McCabe says increases began around June and may not fully hit bills until cold weather. She notes prices have more than doubled year over year and explains PNM simply passes supplier costs to customers. McCabe cites booming economy and industrial gas use as key drivers and says new gas rigs will not affect this winter due to lag in gas delivery. The utility will offer conservation tips and Budget Billing as heating season approaches.
