Chief Warrant Officer Christopher Charles Johnson, 31, a Chinook helicopter pilot and former Green Beret, was buried in a private ceremony on a rocky desert hillside south of Rehoboth. He died August 14 in an Anbar Province, Iraq helicopter crash serving with Fort Wainwright unit Task Force 49. Family, friends, and military personnel attended. Rev. George Vink led both burial and memorial rites.
The Navajo Nation Council meets in a special session to address unfinished summer legislation. Proposals include a 93 641 54 grant to Nideilihi Navajo Elite Runners for Olympic trials training and 150 000 for Chinle veterans groups, plus a 2 million request for water resources drought relief and a 1 million grant to Rehoboth Christian School for a sports center.

A Korean War veteran and FBI alum turned judge, he retired in 2006 for health reasons. colleagues praised his fairness and legal skill.
At a Window Rock public hearing on a proposed 23.7 percent NTUA electric rate increase, residents expressed sympathy for rising costs after 15 years without hikes. Officials cited inflation, noting flour and gasoline price rises since 1992, while critics argued the higher bill would strain fixed incomes and questioned the 18.8 percent residential rise estimate.
