A Jeep rollover near Bluewater killed Helen Woolf 28 of Gallup and left four others critically injured. Thomas Nowlin Jr. 23 of Grants was cited for careless driving after the vehicle hit a guardrail and rolled, injuring Jeffrey Dee 30 Milan, Jayne Lewis 30 Milan, Pam Stewart maybe Thoreau, and other occupants. In a separate crash, Abbot Aspaas 21 of Shiprock died when his motorcycle struck a divider on U.S. 50 near Waterflow.

Gallup man in coma days after head-on collision
Steve Chiaramonte 21 remained in a coma four days after a head-on crash on Church Rock road near Gallup. Lawrence Morgan 27, of Gallup, cited for driving on the wrong side of the road. Injured were Ray Bailey 22 and Phillip Warren 20, both Gallup, treated at Rehoboth Christian Hospital. Bailey with multiple fractures and lacerations. Vehicle occupants were returning from United Nuclear Corp. shift. The crash occurred about 100 miles north of the Red Rock State Park turnoff.
