Explosion ruins home. man burned, mother left homeless
Molly Williams, of 204 S Woodrow Ave Gallup, says her son Tidy Spolar, 37, was injured when an explosion and three follow up blasts ripped through a basement garage where he worked on a car. Spolar sustained burns and was taken to hospital with possible skin grafts. Williams planned to transfer him to a burn unit in Albuquerque. Cats survived. rest of the home was destroyed.

Statewide youth business plan contest offers start-up cash
Gallup students aged 12 to 18 can compete individually or in teams for start-up cash of 100 to 800 dollars in the New Mexico Youth Business Plan Competition. Run by Gov. Richardson and the SBDC Network, it aims to teach how to start manage and grow a business. Applications are at UNM Gallup SBDC in the Gallup Chamber building and due by Friday August 29.

Radon Mitigation Trial at Bread Springs Head Start
Twenty five trainees from Head Start Navajo Nation Environmental Protection Agency and partners completed radon mitigation training at Bread Springs Head Start. The project tested 4.6 pCi l initial levels, reduced to 0.7 0.8 pCi l after mitigation, with nearby locations showing under 2.0 pCi l. WINDOW ROCK The Interior Department awards 300000 in Water 2025 funds to Navajo Agricultural Products Industry to support a 1 million dollar canal gate system and irrigation scheduling project aiming to save about 26000 acre feet annually. The plan monitors water levels upstream and downstream to reduce spills and over irrigation.
