Inmate Riot Reported At Gallup Detention Center
Michal Sullivan reports a riot at the Gallup McKinley County Adult Detention Center early Saturday morning. Fire and smoke were detected in cell pod 2F, injuring inmates who were transported to local hospitals. Thirty four inmates were in the pod with several setting small fires. authorities describe instigators and agitators, with four inmates allegedly setting sheets and mattresses ablaze. Authorities note possible contraband linked to the disturbance. AP cites an unconfirmed report that contraband may be alcohol smuggled into the jail.
