Thoreau Water Board faces funding risk in $200000 grant
McKinley County commissioners demand guarantees of labor and equipment from the Thoreau Water and Sanitation Board before accepting a 200000 state CAC grant to install water lines in eastern Thoreau. If in kind contributions are not fulfilled the state will require a refund and road work must be completed. The ruling follows concerns over commitments, schedules, and right of way acquisition. The board plans to begin in April pending approvals.

Hospital levy talk postponed by county board
McKinley County commissioners were to hear a presentation on a two mill hospital levy but the talk was canceled. Hospital board member Joe Murphy said the decision followed a board vote after receiving information from the commissioners. The levy, approved in July, would raise about 230000 yearly to be split between McKinley General and Rehoboth Christian hospitals.

Autopsy confirms gunshot wound in Gallup murder case
The autopsy on Theresa Hernandez 27 found a gunshot puncturing her lung and heart, with five additional shots from a 22 caliber weapon. Jose Vincent Reyes 29, recently moved to Gallup, was arraigned on murder charges with bond set at 50000. He was picked up minutes after the shooting.
