Gallup residents approved repealing the Sunday ban on by the drink alcohol sales with 1 008 for 805 against among 1 813 voters. Early ballots favored the repeal by about two thirds though districts varied. Gallup McKinley County officials secured a strong bond rate for a 10.3 million dollar issue to fund a city county law enforcement building and a juvenile detention center. Bond adviser Kit Caldwell of Southwest Securities said the bid was surprisingly good despite recent market volatility.
NEA director Edison Wauneka said election staff will count challenged votes and aim for at least 50 percent turnout in the general election. He noted 2004 saw over 50 percent turnout for chapter officials and cited 110000 total registrations this year, complicating goals.
