A second bill would have cut the Navajo Board of Education and reduced its powers. The veto triggers an override option for the Council. The market analysis by Rick Swig said the purchase price is two to three times market value and the hotel is overbuilt. The study estimates only about 30 percent of Gallup area rooms would be sold nightly.
The Independent notes McKinley County schools failing to meet all AYP requirements under No Child Left Behind while To Hatchi and other districts show substantial gains. Tohatchi Elementary and Pine Hill also improved but did not pass AYP. Officials plan to publish a summary for chapters and distribute to local bluewater and Zuni communities.
