Shetland Pony Peter Pan Transformed by Farrier Rasmussen
Eight year old Shetland pony Peter Pan suffered from Peter Pan Hooves, an uncommon hoof condition. After Rasmussen, head farrier instructor at NMSU, bought and treated him, the pony underwent a cross-cut hoof surgery and weeks of corrective trimming. By July the pony was exercised on abrasive terrain and regained movement and spirit, able to run with quarter horses. Rasmussen, a Copenhagen graduate and licensed race track farrier, has led NMSU’s program since 1969.
