Farmers Day Plans Set for Large Exhibit and Parade
Final plans for the 1940 Farmers Day Exhibit are being completed by the committees. Concessions are filling. space is limited. The Pet Parade opens Saturday at 2 PM sponsored by Good's Meat Market with prizes. The parade forms at 1:30 PM and travels from the Reformed church to Main street, then to the schoolhouse. The New Holland Young Business Men's League hosted a dinner where Sergeant E R Rubicam spoke on safety. The parade on Thursday October 3 will feature High school bands totaling about one thousand musicians marching from Kinzer Avenue to Custer Avenue onto Stork Field. Each band will drill or play on entry. Hammer Snader of Ephrata won a portable radio.

Charles E Oehme Rounds Out Fifty Years as Blacksmith

Obituary of Rev. Frank W. Hurst near Martindale dies at 77
The Rev. Frank W. Hurst aged 77 of near Martindale died at home at 11 p m Friday after ten days of pneumonia. He was ordained in 1908 in the Mennonite ministry serving the Martindale Weaverland area. He was survived by three wives and numerous children, grandchildren, and a great grandchild. Funeral services were held at his son Frank Hurst Jr near Martindale and Weaverland church with over 2500 attendees and the six sons as pallbearers.

M Roy Witman aged forty three died at 4 p m Monday at his home in New Holland Rhode Island after eight months of illness. He worked twenty four years as a molder at New Holland Machine Company. He belonged to Ranchs United Brethren church Liberty Fire company and Lancaster County Coon Club. Surviving are his wife Eva Seitz Witman and children Helen Henry Styer Fivepointville Hazel Reba Phyllis Janis Rodney Thomas all at home and his mother Emma Witman New Holland.
