Representatives from church groups civic bodies service clubs and the American Legion met to decide New Holland V Day observance after Germany's surrender. The group endorsed a solemn prayer and thanksgiving event led by Conestoga Post 662 with community services at 6 p m on the day of announcement or the following day if needed.
At a New Holland Rotary Club meeting at Peoples Restaurant on Monday evening William Kronmeyer arranged a talk by Ralph Hertzler from Sharp & Dohme Laboratories Philadelphia. Hertzler, a plasma processing specialist, explained how blood plasma is obtained after red cells are removed and demonstrated packaging plasma in vials.
A National Broadcasting Company report from Pearl Harbor lauds Major E. M. F. Weaver’s medical service to wounded Marines on a recently occupied island. He, with a small team, landed under fire with an instrument kit and gasoline convoy to set up a field hospital in a crude building and saved a Marine’s sight. Weaver’s motto: The impossible we do immediately miracles must wait.
All Methodist churches within thirty miles of Lancaster will host over a hundred ministers and national leaders for the Philadelphia Conference School of Evangelism from September 18 to 24. Sessions at St. Pauls Church begin at nine for ministers, with public inspiration at eleven. Each afternoon, ministers form Gospel Teams to visit homes in the area.
Mrs. L. M. Storb of West Main Street reports a surprise reunion with her son George Storb Ph M2C after a six month absence. He had served with a Naval medical unit during D-Day and is on a twenty day leave before reporting to a naval base in California.

Samuel E. Ellswerth 80 of 229 West Main Street died Wednesday night after a long illness. He was the son of the late Christian and Mary Ellswerth and a member of Zeltenreich Reformed Church. He is survived by nieces and was the last of his family. Funeral services Sunday at 2 30 p m at the Esbenshade Funeral Home. friends may call Saturday 7 to 9 p m.
Special dispatch reports Robert E. Rutter promoted to technical sergeant with the Fifth Army in Italy. He serves as a platoon sergeant with the First Armored Division. he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. pb. Rutter, and his wife Katherine lives at 346 West Main Street, New Holland.
Pvt Paul J Sandoe of New Holland receives the Bronze Star for heroic service with a medical detachment in the Second Corps on the Fifth Army Front in Italy. His parents, Mr and Mrs Howard Sandoe, live on Route 2, New Holland.
Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Dietrich and family of Berwyn Maryland have returned home after a week with Mrs. Dietrichs parents Mr. and Mrs. I. N. Houck of Goodville.

Mrs. Agnes Himmelberger of Lancaster and Edward Shindler of Lancaster were married at 2 p m Sunday in the Moravian Chapel Bethlehem. The double ring ceremony was performed by Rev Byron K Horne. The couple will reside at 719 Sixth Street Lancaster after a trip to the Poconos.
Miss Nancy Foltz daughter of Mr and Mrs Jacob Foltz Terre Hill and Pfc Arthur W Trostle son of Mr and Mrs Charles Trostle Adamstown were wed August 29 at 6 pm in United Evangelical Church Adamstown with Rev B P Gieske officiating. Best man was Howard Trostle. Trostle will return to Fort Jackson after furlough.
Miss Marie Hamish Lahr daughter of Mr and Mrs John H Lahr Banks R1 and Floyd Mervin Buch son of Mr and Mrs Charles K Buch near Groffdale were married at 11 am Sunday at Longenecker's Reform Mennonite Church near Strasburg The Rev Jacob Kreider Lancaster officiated A reception followed at the bride's home where the couple will reside The bridegroom is a plumber by trade.
Notice that S. Rubinson & Son and Harris Bros. & Co. will close their stores on September 18 19 and September 27 due to the Jewish holidays.

Citizens of Voganville and vicinity honored service men at a dedication ceremony for an Honor Roll plaque on the square. Rev. W Scott Brendle and Rev. W L Kettner spoke. Charles A Mentzer of the American Legion presented the plaque. Three veterans named on the board attended: Leon R Buch Jr Lloyd G Sensenig and Edwin P Frankhouser Jr. The Victory Band of New Holland provided music.
The Loyal Workers Circle of the King's Daughters Society met at the president's home. Virginia Hoffman led Bible study and new visiting committees were appointed for West New Holland East New Holland. A white elephant sale is planned and the group will attend the County Convention October 12 at Trinity Lutheran Parish House in Lancaster. Virginia Hoffman and Mrs. R. E. Whitmore will organize a Christmas message for armed forces families from New Holland and routes.
The New Holland study group held its opening session in the St Stephen Church basement on Wednesday evening with nineteen enrolled. Enrollments are closed and meetings will continue weekly at 8:80 p.m. at the church.
Hunters license records show 1944 licenses issued at the office of Styer and Evans, real estate and insurance firm. The brief notice confirms location and year of license issuance without additional details.
The New Holland Lions Club dinner meeting featured two citations. Irwin R. Weaver of Farmers Bank received a Treasury Department citation for payroll savings program cooperation. The New Holland Clarion earned a meritorious services citation from the Pennsylvania Salvage Program.
On Friday September 8, 155 pints were donated, 5 below the minimum due to forty no-shows. Sixteen people without appointments donated, including three substitutes, keeping the local record. Harrisburg thanks all participants while urging better attendance next time.
Trinity Lutheran Church observes a Harvest Festival Sunday at 10 30 with Rev. George W Wilt preaching "A Harvest for Christ" and offerings of produce donated to the Orphans Home. Sunday School begins at 9 30 with all departments meeting.
