High Constable Summers arrests Daniel McManiman known as Dan Checkers for drunkenness. He pleads guilty and pays a fine after a Friday hearing. A nuisance in the east end turns out to be Checkers, jailed for a jag. Checkers later faces a thirty day commitment for drunkenness and vagrancy, amid broader town concerns over such behavior. A second arrest follows for Alfred Boots after resisting and firing at an officer, sent to jail for trial.
