A cow was killed by lightning on Daniel Petersheim’s farm south of the borough, while hail extended from near Unurelville through Toler course and Temi Place to Matanee, with scattered impacts as far as Cambridge, Compass, and Bird-in-Hand. The storm’s ruinous effects will total thousands of dollars, with many summer crops lost or damaged beyond recovery.

Councils Suspended Across Lancaster County
News of widespread suspensions hits Lancaster County Junior Order of United American Mechanics as twelve of seventeen councils are suspended for nonpayment of per capita tax. State Councillor Busch, of Allegheny, sent notices to the affected councils amid a long standing split in the order between Loyalists and Insurgents dating to a 1902 Pittsburg council meeting. Some Lancaster councils had supported the Insurgents but refuse to pay until state authorities intervene by court action. Thieves broke into the Gap post office on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning using a ladder to reach the second story. They smashed a pane to access the interior and attempted to open the safe, stole Postmaster Charles Passmore’s clothing, letters, and postal cards, and took a railroad tool shed hammer and other tools. No arrests yet though authorities suspect suspects seen near the station.

Lutheran reunion to be held at Root's Park in Reamsatown
