Liberty Fire Company Hosts Supper at New Fire Hall

Members of the Liberty Fire Company and the Ladies Auxiliary held a Wednesday evening supper at the new fire hall. Rev. C G Bachman offered grace as guests viewed films of local fire department activities including the dedication of the new hall and engine housing with visitors from Blue Ball Bareville Goodville Churchtown and Terre Hill observing.

Son of Jason Wenger Recollects Lancaster Roots in 1920s visit

Earl K Wenger and family from Battle Creek Michigan visited Lancaster County relatives. He is son of Jason A Wenger of New Holland and the late Phoebe MacIntyre Wenger. A 22 year Kellogg employee, he recalled Main and Jackson streets, the old baseball diamond on Jason Bair property, and early town fires.

Nominating committee to name nine directors for New Holland group

The temporary chairman of the Business Men’s group has formed a nominating committee to present names for nine directors at the AmVets Hall on Tuesday September 19 at 9 p m. The By-Laws will be read and adopted if unchanged. Members were highly engaged at the first meeting and the committee includes diverse New Holland business sectors. After By-Laws adoption the committee will propose officers and floor nominations. Each candidate must consent to serve if elected. A permanent group name and first project will be announced and adopted. With fall starting, all area businesses are urged to attend.

Boy Scouts Scrap Drive Tuesday Plans

The Troop 48 committee will meet Monday at 8:00 p.m. in the Scout Home with a Board of Review. On Tuesday evening the troop runs a scrap drive, collecting newspapers magazines and rags to support the troop. Sunday September 17 the local troop and families hold a round up at Camp Welshova with new Scout Executive Mr J W Willett visiting.

King's Daughters to Meet for Bible Study and Flower Talk

The Loyal Workers' Circle of King's Daughters will gather Tuesday evening at St Stephen Reformed Church. Miss Virginia Hoffman will present the Bible Study and Mrs Virgil Spencer of East Petersburg will discuss Flower Arrangements. Mrs Ralph Roland chairs the hostess committee.

Tuesday Registration Day for Local Voters

Local residents not yet on the voting list may register at the county courthouse. Only six more New Holland residents have registered at the count house to vote in November elections. A special registration day is set for September 12 with hours 10 am to 3 pm and 7 pm to 10 pm. County officials report 1076 New Holland residents are registered while about 1300 could be eligible. Renewals and new registrations are also possible at the Lancaster courthouse through September 16.

Elam M Weaver eighty one of Hinkletown died Wednesday at 1:30 am from injuries after a fall at his home. He was a retired farmer and member of Weaverland Mennonite Church. Survived by wife Susanna Gehman Weaver three children Ada Zimmerman R 3 Eph rata Clayton R Harry R Ephrata R 3 nine grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren plus brothers Henry M New Holland R 1 Benjamin M Blue Ball Joseph M East Earl R 1 and Emma Burkholder Blue Ball. Samuel R. Weaver 79 dies after lingering illness in Lancaster

Samuel R. Weaver aged 79 of 442 West Main Street died at 7:55 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Hospital Lancaster after a lingering illness. His wife Elizabeth Good Weaver preceded him in death by several months. He was a son of the late Josiah and Mary Reiss Weaver and a member of the community. (Continued on Page 4)
