The Caernarvon Rambler continues a dated ledger excerpt showing Quantens family accounts for flax meal and crops with prices and receipts. It recalls Quaintance lineage, local grave markers, and childhood reminiscences of candies and chewing root in Churchtown.
The Sunset View Restaurant in Churchtown launches its fall and winter dance hall season this Saturday September 8 with Kramer's Orchestra from Reading providing music. On Friday September 14 the Comic Colored Fun-Makers from Allentown will present a 14 member variety show with music tap dancing songs and sketches. Admission is twenty five cents for each event.
The Caernarvon Fire Company hosts a Saturday Sept 8 festival at the fire hall in Churchtown rain or shine. Enjoy chicken corn soup with free parking at Shirk's field beside festival grounds.
New Holland Farm Show preparations drive excitement for the Eighth Annual Farmers Day Exhibit in Pennsylvania. An enlarged Horse Show committee plans eight to ten events with 75 to 100 horses, cash prizes, and a championship award. Concessions space is filling fast as former and new exhibitors secure booths. Lions Club adds a Baby Parade and sports events while the American Legion sponsors the Mummers Parade.
The Pennsylvania Department of Public Instruction and Lions Club sponsored recreational program in New Holland proved successful educationally and recreationally. Supervisor Ivan P. Lowry praised cooperation, noting over seventy five participants in softball with twenty never missing a game and many others taking educational trips to Armstrong Linoleum Plant F and M Museum Stehli Silk Mill Lancaster City Water Works and other local sites.
John S. Lapp and Levi Lapp of Leacock Township named co administrators ca of the estate of Mattie B. Lapp late of Leacock Township.
A market wagon stolen from Adam K. Kurtz near Reinholds Station in June was found in use by a stranger in Earl Township, who claimed it on premises one night in June. Kurtz recovered the wagon. Isaac Rupp’s flour mill near the Conestoga in East Earl Township was idle for three months as workers installed a high grade roller milling system replacing the old sandstone burr mill. Obituary notices report Mary J Ringwalt Guin widow of Major Ringwalt and wife of Jousun Clayton Tuckey, 26, visiting his parents at Churchtown. he resided in Philadelphia. Anna Mary, eight months, daughter of Mr and Mrs Jacob Mentzer of Salisbury, died last week.
Twenty five years ago the Clarion reports that the borough schools opened last Monday with an attendance of 171. The primary department had 53 students, secondary 28, Grammar 37, and High school 53. Fourteen beginners started in the primary room. Rev A T Steinhouser of Allentown, former Trinity Lutheran pastor, visited the Diller family and preached in his former pulpit last Sunday morning and evening. Continued on Page 4.
Miss Dorothy Pugh daughter of Mr and Mrs James W Pugh of Lyndon and James M Friedly son of Mr and Mrs I O Friedly of Leola united in marriage at the Willow Street Evangelical and Reformed church with Rev David Scheirer officiating. The bride wore a white satin gown and carried a bouquet of white roses with Miss Margaret Dunlap as bridesmaid in turquoise gown and pink accessories. Best man was Rev Herman C Snyder. Miss Maude Garber sang and the ceremony featured palms and ferns. A reception followed then a trip to Chicago and points north. they will reside at Lyndon after September 10.
Thirty-one children attended the Well Baby Clinic held yesterday at the Farmers Bank Building. Miss Hielen, Miss Bess Gilfillan, and Miss Ethel Kersey, R.N., led the event with Dr. W. A. Foust as attending physician. Three new names joined the roll: Donald Unangst, Robert Bruce Unangst, and Alice Marie Good. No clinic on the first Thursday in October due to the Lions Club Baby Parade for Farmers Day.
Dr Arnold H Zwally son of Mr and Mrs Charles S Zwally will begin medical practice at 239 West Main Street Ephrata on Monday He graduated in June 1932 and has been an interne at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia He did pre medical work at Lebanon Valley College after graduating from the local high school
Retired Lancaster Lutheran minister S. M. Mountz preached at Zion Lutheran Church Leacock in morning and evening services on Sunday. Reverend Mountz delivered two sermons reflecting on faith and community.
Daughter of Mr and Mrs C D Hav erstic k of North Railroad Avenue leaves Friday for Pittsburgh to enter a Children's Hospital post graduate course in Pediatrics and Orthopedics. She graduated from Lancaster General Hospital in 1933.
Borough Council reviewed the budget showing near balance if all taxes are paid and that only essential improvements are affordable to avoid temporary loans. A state health engineer’s report on industrial waste water disposal was read, with directions to notify J G Mumma to inform plants of state rules. A bond redemption notice from the borough solicitor appeared in two papers. A Liberty Fire Company committee asked for a next year fire tax to fund festivals and events. The council sent a three member delegation to the fire company meeting to determine the needed budget.
Mrs Mary W Oberholzer fifty six died of complications at five a m Monday at her home in Blue Ball after eleven weeks illness. She was a former tax collector of East Earl township and member of Ranchs United Brethren church. Survived by son Harry W Blue Ball. son D Clyde of this borough. daughter Miriam at home. three grandchildren. father Tobias W Wanner Blue Ball. brothers Henry Wanner Blue Ball Horace Wanner East Earl Tobias Wanner Atglen Charles Wanner New Holland. sister Mrs Sanford Singer Kinzer. Funeral Sunday at 1 30 p m from the home and Weaverland Mennonite church with interment in adjoining cemetery.
Mrs John V Diener aged seventy six died Sunday night at 10 30 at her Gordonville home from a cerebral hemorrhage She was Amish Mennonite Millwood church member wife of John V Diener and mother to a daughter Mrs Ezra D Kurtz She leaves three grandchildren and one great grandchild Brief home services followed by Millwood Amish Mennonite church rites Interment was made

The Woman's Christian Temperance Union gathered at Mrs. Frank Ludwig's home with Emma Overly leading worship. Members read extracts from the World WCTU report, discuss county convention plans in Elizabethtown, and vote a one dollar donation to the County Apron fundraiser.
A card party hosted by Mr. and Mrs. J. Lloyd Stauffer in White Horse raised funds or socializing under the Christiana Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Seventy five attendees played pinochle and 500, followed by refreshments.

Firefighters from New Holland and Intercourse, with neighbors of Mr and Mrs Irwin Moore near Zeltenreich Church, battled a stubborn straw fire Friday afternoon. The baled straw stack burned, a portion of the north barn charred, but the barn was saved. Spontaneous combustion is blamed though a half hour earlier might have made control easier due to limited water supply.
Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Eshleman of Terre Hill observed their fiftieth anniversary at a family reunion. Mr. Eshleman once served as Muddy Creek postmaster. They were wed in 1884 by the late Rev. Stephen Schweitzer, father of Rev. Martin W. Schweitzer of Ephrata.
Administrator David H. Styer of New Holland appointed to manage the estate of Susan Sprecher late of New Holland and Isaac Sprecher also named administrator of his late relative, with duties to settle debts and distribute assets as ordered.
The annual Shirk descendants reunion for Isaac and Samuel Shirk will be held on Saturday at the home of Mr and Mrs Harry E Harsh in Barville.
