The obituary notes the two year old Vek Fulmer, son of Rev. Fulmer pastor of the Lutheran church in Leacock, died about two weeks ago. Parents survive. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at the Lutheran church in Leacock and interment followed in the adjoining cemetery.
Leah Speicher died at her nephew Jacob Speicher’s home near Hinkletown on Tuesday evening. She was 72 years old and an active member of the church. The funeral was held at the home of death on Friday morning at 9 o’clock, with interment in the Groffdale Amish Cemetery.
Charles Howard Preston was found dead in bed Tuesday morning by his daughter Mrs. Harry Bowers at her 1185 Windsor Street Reading home. He would have turned 65 this Saturday. death due to heart trouble. A native of Lancaster County born near here he moved to Terre Hill 25 years ago and was employed as a collector for the Reading Herald. He was a member of P O S of A and the Odd Fellows. His wife died years ago and he is survived by a son Fred Preston of Daneanten and a daughter Sadie wife of Harry Bowers.

Obituaries for Henry Rleaman of 962 Jackson Street and Anna B Clark of Salisbury township report deaths from complications. Rleaman, aged 3 years 2 months 20 days, leaves a wife Fannie and several children. funeral private at home with service at Hershey Church then interment at Hershey cemetery. Thousands flocked to the local ball field Saturday for an Athletic Association festival to aid ground improvements. The well lit grounds and grandstand hosted the Spring Garden Band of York with minstrel singers. Ice cream candy drinks and many goods were sold, raising a sum toward the improvement debt while hundreds of machines filled the field and visitors praised the ball field.
The club, formed nearly a year ago, seeks adequate lighting for Main Street to boost traffic and attract visitors. They stress balanced illumination on both sides and plan to discuss town needs at the upcoming quarterly meeting.
The State Highway Department began rebuilding the New Holland Turnpike now Route 244 on the Sproul Highway System with gangs at Bareville Blue Ball and a third in New Holland Borough Railroad Avenue. A large labor force is needed with about thirty applicants already and twenty five more after tobacco divestment, to staff the highway project this fall under foremen at Blue Ball Bareville or David H. Styer in New Holland.

Rumors claimed Amos R. Good bought the Reitz Electric Company and would pair it with his plumbing business. H. Edgar Good is identified as the buyer, with AW Tip as manager, while the Lancaster paper’s garbled report says they would not compete with the plumbing firm.

The New Holland Rod and Gun Club held its Second Annual Labor Day picnic at Fiandt's Mill along Conestoga Creek with a large turnout. Prizes were awarded in gun shoot classes, and a cash prize of 500 was offered for the high gun. At St Stephen Church next Sunday evening the Minister will begin a series on "A Man After His Own Heart" with a sermon on Kings David and Amos. Special music includes John J. Smaling of Lancaster. While away, the parsonage was painted and other improvements made to the property.
On next Sunday at 10 15 the annual Harvest Home Service will be held with the regular worship. The minister will preach on the subject Gratitude that Counts.
Amos H. Hershey conducted private terms sales to Katie and Margaret Rutter of the Henry Matzer home in Groffdale near the power house and to Mr Mentzer his own home on Railroad Avenue, within the borough.
Mildred Hershey Pfautz became the bride of William Allen Hammond at the Pfautz home in Manheim on a Wednesday morning ceremony. The couple will reside in Lancaster after a wedding breakfast and a trip through the New England states. The bride, a Goucher College graduate and former English teacher, and the groom, English department head at Franklin and Marshall Academy, plan further study at Columbia University.
Early Monday fire destroyed a large rear barn at Blue Ball Machine Shop owned by Peter E. Shirk. Drayman Austin Shepler lost a Schwartz five ton truck a touring car and other personal effects in the blaze. Loss estimated at about 6000 with no insurance on the barn. Firefighters from New Holland Goodville Terre Hill and Blue Ball aided and prevented spread to a nearby tobacco warehouse.

Mr and Mrs W M Stauffer and daughter Mary of New Holland escaped injury when a speeding touring car nearly sideswiped their vehicle at Hellers Church on the Lancaster road. Miss Stauffer swerved to avoid collision, crashing into loose stones and a fence. the touring car fled. The Stauffers were helped to New Holland and the damaged car to John Lauder's Garage with the steering rod snapped. No one was apprehended as the guilty driver.
The Glen Grill opened Sunday evening from 7 to 9 drawing a large crowd impressed by the new place. Visitors were given tours and treated to ice cream and cake. The manager notes delays prevented serving chicken and waffles this Sunday but the dish will join the regular menu soon. MoBo Automobile Soap is advertised in the notice.
The Chicken Corn Soup Supper on Dr Hoffman's lawn hosted by the Gleaners Class of the Methodist Sunday School drew a large crowd last Friday evening. Starting at 5:00, over 100 quarts of soup and ample refreshments were sold, raising a neat sum.
The regular monthly meeting of the New Holland High School Alumni Association will be held Tuesday September 11 at 7 30 PM in the school house. Members are invited and urged to attend as several important topics will be discussed.
