Rutland Park Picnic Draws Thousands in 1894

A September 1 1894 notice recounts Rutland Park's sixth annual teachers’ picnic drawn by trains buggies carriages and walking crowds estimated 6000 to 9000. A mule died nearby sparking light commentary while other curious items include a visiting Japanese preacher and odd trivia about milking a reindeer with frozen milk.

Infantryman Milton Hoover Wounded in France Three Times

Staff Sergeant Milton W. Hoover of Graffdale reports in a letter to his parents that he has been wounded in the face and left arm, the third injury in France since D-Day. The August 17 letter says he is hospitalized in England after shrapnel punctured his helmet on D-Day and his heel was hit on July 16.

Cpl Frank Hostetter AAF twenty one son of Mr and Mrs C F Hostetter of Bird in Hand is reported missing in action over Romania. He has been overseas since last November and was stationed in Italy missing since August 10. The last letter from him was received August ninth. He enlisted in October 1942.
