Progress of the Draft in District No 2 Exemption Boards Active
Exemption boards in the county outside Lancaster city have worked over two weeks, examining draftees and hearing exemption claims. District No 2 centered at Ephrata reports 2,348 enrolled and 102 needed for the first draft. New Holland contributes 116 enrollments. Forty more men were examined this week, with 820 examined to date. Several New Holland men were rejected or claimed exemptions, including Walter S. Diam and six others. The boards plan further examinations and hearings next week with continued sessions Wednesday and Thursday for exemption applications.

Frank McKeown of Passaic will exhibit his baseball skills without arms on Monday at the New Holland Athletic Field before the Terre Gill game and again in Terre Hill. He lost both arms at thirteen and has since mastered tools, shaving, bowling, and bicycle tricks. Admission is free, with photos for sale.

Obituary and Farm Machinery Demonstration Recounted
Ida Diem Mies Ta Dieu of Buena Vista died at Lancaster County Hospital after a long illness. Survivors include her father George Diem and two sisters. Funeral services were held at her sister’s home and Paquedoug Presbyterian Church. Also reported is the death of Mr Fax, a longtime Lancaster church member, and William Thach, noted astronomer and musician, in Newnanstown. Geneva Traction Company representatives demonstrated a Ford tractor with an adapting traction axle in Brabaker Ave showing plow and machinery versatility.
