Contractor Blake Admits Bribery in Ruef Case Court
In San Francisco the contractor BE A B Blake confessed to attempting to bribe jurors to acquit Abraham Ruef. He said Ruef’s counsel Frank J Murphy offered 10 000 if he kept quiet and his wife would receive 100 a month during imprisonment. Blake’s testimony followed earlier offers to influence juror J M Kelly and prompted a two week continuation.

Morristown New Jersey October 30. Burglars who ransacked the Perkins home promised to return any heirloom of sentimental value. An express package arrived containing three sets of rosary beads wedding rings a small amethyst cross a locket and foreign coins. The trio had kept the women and a sister and maids imprisoned during the break in but apologized for the crime. The package prompted renewed trust in the thieves until then.
