B Z Mellinger will open a Ford Sales and Service Station at West Main and Myers Avenue. The one story brick building houses display and repair space with gas station and greasing facilities. A full line of new Ford cars will be shown tomorrow, marking the dealer’s area agency debut.
The Young Ladies' Bible Class of St Stephen Reformed Sunday School honored teacher Mrs Elsie Y Walters for ten years of service. They presented a vase with ten yellow chrysanthemums and elected officers including President Mrs C C Warner and Secretary Mrs Irwin R Weaver. A covered luncheon followed with numerous attendees from Reading and Philadelphia.
The American Legion Auxiliary will sponsor a card party at the Veterans Hospital in Coatesville on Friday December 6. Donations may be given to Mrs Amog Zuck. Attendees should assemble at the Legion Home at 6 30 p m that day.
The Women's Missionary Society held its annual Thank Offering Meeting in the Parish House on Sunday evening under Mrs. David H. Styer. A pageant titled The Convention of Thank Offering Boxes was staged by society members. The offering totaled 69.36 dollars to be sent to foreign missions.
William Fox of Philadelphia guest speaker at Chevron Night by the New Holland Lions. He recalled forming the club over ten years ago and explained Lionism's service to the blind and crippled. Thirteen Charter Member Chevrons were awarded to Diller Besore Bachman Esbenshade Hoffman Hooker Stauffer Storb Smith Townsley Wright Wright Wentz. Old Monarch Chevrons went to long-time members Cauller Fenninger Kling Kochel Mearig Shirk Zwally. Herbert Terrey resignation accepted. December entertainment committee named Whitmore Diller Keiser. Donation to Community Welfare Association ratified.
The Boy Scouts met Tuesday at the schoolhouse led by Charles Good Lester Wagner and James Wentz A miniature stage show and scout orchestra accompanied marching as part of the exhibition Patrol leaders elected were Joe Kurtz Flying Eagle patrol with assistant Frank Bair and Robert Whitmore Moose patrol with assistant James Bachman, revealing leadership roles.

Dr. D. W. Kuntz president of Bethany Biblical Seminary Chicago will give a lecture on December 7 at 7 15 p m in the Bareville Church of the Brethren. He is a Juniata and Yale graduate who studied in Leipzig Berlin Marburg and College de France. He led McPherson College Kansas for thirteen years and has spoken at world Sunday School Conventions in Japan and Scotland.
The Liberty Fire Company will conduct its annual officer and trustee election on Wednesday December 4 at the Fire Hall. Members are urged to attend. Candidates nominated in November include for fire chief the names John Renninger George Good Ed Mellinger and H K Weaver to fill the vacancy caused by C R Bair’s death.

Borough Council moved to apply for WPA funds to grade ungraded streets and expand relief labor programs for sidewalks drives paving and sanitary sewers on public property. Property owners will be asked to cooperate through a borough solicitor, choosing from whom materials are bought, with the borough supervising and aiming to install new sidewalks curbs and gutters where feasible under available funds.
East Earl Mr and Mrs Elmer R Witmer celebrated 25 years of marriage with a surprise party at their home on market day. Attendees included family neighbors and friends from Ephrata Jersey City Philadelphia and nearby towns who brought gifts of silver and a turkey dinner. The couple wed 25 years ago on Thanksgiving Day officiated by Rev Jonas Martin at Mrs Witmer s home near Churchtown.
County Superintendent Arthur P. Mylin announced Saturday that the new public school manual for Lancaster County has been distributed to 855 teachers and 2 directors in the county. Four more teachers’ names appear in this year’s directory than in 1934-1835.

The 1935 Pennsylvania Legislature updated the Motor Vehicle Code requiring motorists to dim headlamps when near oncoming traffic or risk a $10 fine or five days in jail. The amendment extends driving beam reach to 350 feet, while near oncoming cars within 500 feet must switch to lower beams. Parking lights must also be dimmed when parked to avoid glare.
