A special meeting discussed applying for Works Progress Administration funds to grade streets and lay pavements. The Highway Committee will prepare the WPA applications and a borough sponsored sidewalk curb program may bill only materials and rental to property owners. Weidler B. Burkholder aged seventy eight of 226 South State street Ephrata died suddenly at home after an acute indigestion attack. He belonged to the Eph rata Mennonite church. Survived by wife Hettie Martin Burkholer and his children from a prior marriage Mrs Bru baker East Petersburg Mrs Ivan H Mentzer and Weidler H Burkholder Ephrata fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. Private services will be at 1 30 p m Saturday at the home with public services at 2 p m at Ephrata Mennonite church. Interment in Groffdale cemetery.

Fire Chief Clayton Bair dies at 67 in New Holland
Clayton R. Bair sixty seven son of the late Israel and Mrs. Bair of this borough died at his New Holland home Friday evening from complications. A longtime firefighter he led the Liberty Fire Company since 1929 and served twelve terms as Fire Chief. Survived by wife Alice Weaver and four daughters and several siblings. Funeral held Tuesday at his home and New Holland United Brethren church with a special Liberty Fire Company burial service.
