John I Herchelroth of Ephrata died Friday evening at his home from heart disease after a brief illness. He was born at Middle Creek and for twenty years ran a green grocery in Ephrata. Surviving are his daughter Mrs F I Stohler, two brothers Jacob M of Lancaster and Henry W of Ephrata, and sister Amanda Keller of Philadelphia. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon with burial in Bowman cemetery.
A large bank barn belonging to Richard Fauat, about a mile from Swamp church in West Cocalico township, burned Sunday evening. Fire was discovered at 8 o'clock and quickly enveloped the structure. Four cows perished, two horses were badly burned, and extensive grain and implements were destroyed. Origin unknown but suspected incendiary.
A historic stone house known as Wayside Tun near Witmer’s Bridge on the Conestoga pike was gutted Thursday night around 9. Her brothers included the late Reading mayor Evans and lawyer Miller Evans of Pottstown.
A nine year old boy from Eden named Clarence Altom Siex escaped serious harm after jumping onto a trolley track while ash dumping. The Ephgata car driven by Motorman Howard Warner struck him with its fender causing a fall. the boy was injured but the motorman fled after the incident.
Miss Jessie Harris colored aged 35 of 881 North Prince street Lancaster died in the city ambulance while being taken from her home to the county hospital. She had earlier suffered dysentery and was recently ill with inflammation of the bowels the cause of death. Her parents live in Welsh Mountain.
Elias Kegerise died at his son in law Albert Eckenroth home in Mohnsville Berks county after an illness of about four months from lung troubles He was sixty eight years old He formerly lived in Earlville West Earl township and moved to Mohnsville about fifteen years ago His wife died about two years ago He is survived by nine children four sons and five daughters He was a member of Earl Lodge No 418 I C C F of the borough
The U. B. church choir in this borough hosts a chicken and waffle supper in the Hiester building this Saturday evening from 5 to 10 o clock. Tickets are twenty five cents with ice cream and drinks on sale. Proceeds support the organ fund.
