Goodville Boy Hurt In Mountain Axe Incident
Robert Burkhart of Goodville was severely cut in the foot by an axe while wood chopping with his father in the Welsh Mountains two miles south of Churchtown. He was taken to Dr. C. S. Duttenhofer in Churchtown. the wound required three stitches.

Fire damages Salem Reformed Church near Leacock
Fire discovered about 12 30 p m Sunday caused severe interior damage at Salem Reformed Church in Hellers Upper Leacock township. Loss estimated between 10 000 and 15 000 dollars with smoke water and chemicals causing most damage. Firefighters from multiple towns fought flames, found water scarce, and the parish project to install a new oil furnace and complete improvements valued at about 6 000 dollars was interrupted.

The Blue Ball resident, born a slave, spoke English and Pennsylvania German with a distinctive accent. He drifted through East Earl township from about 1832 to 1862, surviving on wit and charm despite hardship and drink.

Elizabeth Martin eighty four died Sunday night at her daughter Mrs Baby Sauder's home East Earl R D 1 from complications.
