Work on the trolley line between Ephrata and Adamstown is advancing rapidly and cars are expected to run to Reamstown by Thanksgiving day. The number of workers will be increased to speed the project.
A counterfeit silver dollar has appeared in Lancaster. It has a convincing ring but is thicker and lighter than the genuine coin.
A boxing contest between Edward Bowers and Harry McClure of Philadelphia was held last Tuesday evening at Williama town. A cornet band from Compasaville performed after a Republican meeting near Kinzer, with no serious injuries reported from a minor wagon upset and a broken wagon tongue.
Miss Tillie Holman of Pottstown stayed a week in town with Miss Jane Kohler. Chester and Mrs Roseboro and children toured Paradise and Lancaster visiting friends and attending the Lancaster Tatheran conference. Others visited Philadelphia and Lancaster for family and missionary events.
Lavi Senger of Rarl township aged eighty five walked two and three quarters miles to the voting booth north of the borough to cast his ballot for Pennypacker and the Republican ticket. He declined a ride, voting General Harrison for President in 1810 and has supported Whig and Republican tickets for local offices, with a few Democratic votes for local friends in the past.
Lydia Watts, sister of William M. Clime, challenged the will on grounds it was made while the testator was unsound. Evidence showed the document was drafted five minutes before death. A jury returned a verdict sustaining the will, awarding the estate to the widow Betsy Clime.
The regular town council meeting reports treasury cash of 91 575.04 and October license fees 3.60. Streets: 371.43 approved for October work, Belgian blocks to be provided by borough with owners paying for laying, and a carload ordered. An ordinance granting a franchise to Enterprise Telephone was introduced and accepted. Street lighting bill for October 346.05 approved. A note from the New Zealand WCTU requests stricter street conduct enforcement. Adjournment.
Rev Joseph Morrow of Ottawa Kansas end his month long visit with relatives in Lancaster county. His sister Mrs Catharine Weiler Bareville hosted a family reunion with four brothers Abram Goodville Samuel Baltimore and Dr Jacob Morrow Lancaster among about fifteen nieces and nephews. They celebrated with prayer and a grand dinner praising God.
United States Consul Al G. Seyfert and Mrs. Seyfert hosted a chrysanthemum tea Thursday for Mrs. J. D. McCrimmon of Stratford Canada. More than fifty locals from Lancaster New Holland Honeybrook and nearby areas attended in a social hour with a dining room adorned in chrysanthemums.
On last Saturday evening Mrs. Percy Kurtz of Greenbank Mast Karl township brought to the office a beef carcass of extraordinary size. Its length measured eighteen inches with a sixteen and a half inch girth and a weight of ten pounds nine ounces. The town folk say it could feed many and invite others to report similarly remarkable harvests.
Isravl Bair of this borough has been on the sick list the past week with asthma and a severe cold that threatened pneumonia. The danger has passed and he is improving.
