Blue Ball, a small village, celebrates acquiring its first fire fighting setup a shock and ladder wagon from E. L. Roseboro & Son. About forty six residents traveled by trolley to witness the event, with local leaders guiding the move to store the gear at Geist’s building.
The New Holland borough schools report for October shows enrollment 186 with 171 average daily attendance and 95 percent attendance. It lists many students who attended every day across Primary, Secondary, Grammar, and High School, including Emily Rutter, Edith Hess, Viola Diller, and Haith Keiser among others, under Principal A R Wissler.
The New Holland Grarton weekly has been enlarged from six to seven columns. Editor A A Showalter is praised as an all around leader.
The village considers a cement walk while residents travel to Lancaster Philadelphia and Orrville for family and church events. St Johns U B Church hosts oyster supper and revival meetings. Gordonville Primary closes for election day. Several locals attend funerals and visit relatives across Lancaster and Paradise regions.
A wedding at Mrs. Elizabeth Denlinger's home in Vici unites Anna Mae Denlinger and Willis L. Zimmerman with a Presbyterian ceremony. The ceremony features a Philadelphia maid of honor and an Intercourse groom, followed by a luncheon and trip through southern states. A separate Memphis ceremony ties Lottie Winters to Charles C. Gardener with future residence in Washington, and Leonard Mink wed Ellen E. Frankhouser in Ephrata.
The Luther League gathered last Friday at Miss Annie Mentzer’s home with thirty five members and friends present. Devotional services were led by the pastor. Geo Mearig reported on the district convention. readings and vocal selections followed including Elva G. Bair and Mary Roseboro. next meeting set for Mr and Mrs Chester Roseboro’s home with devotional and readings planned.
East Earl area reports quiet election in Church town. William Weaver plans spring move to Martin Good’s farm near Cambridge. Several residents named Styer Foreman Ringwalt and Witman noted visiting or staying with relatives. Water scarce in Pennytown as farmers finish fodder and prepare to harvest tobacco.
A Hallowe en masquerade social gathering occurred last Saturday evening at E M Rutters home. About thirty guests attended the event with Misses Butter promoting the affair and guiding the activities at the party. They visited the neighbor ee barn for further social games and entertainment.
A new wire fence rises on the Styer House property along Railroad avenue. Mrs. John Seldomridge of Ephrata is seriously ill at home. Mrs. Emma Bryson departs from the Styer House culinary department for Ephrata. David G. Graybill leaves the local machine works for York and joins Pullman Automobile Works. Mrs. Graybill stays at Littitz until York housing is secured. Rabbit season opens with mixed hare luck. Star course tickets sell well as Sidney Landon presents life sketches November 16. Eli M. Martin buys a non Hudson runabout and plans a Chalmers-Detroit touring car demonstration and new agency locally.
A series of visits moves across Cambridge Maytown Chester County Lancaster and Philadelphia with families from Reading Elizabethtown and New Holland. Two incidents are noted a carriage overturn near election night and a painter falling from a scaffold at Bridgeville Church with no serious injuries reported.
H Lowrie of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Constable Summers and Lollar arrested Adam Dennis Ed Patterson and Sam Patterson all colored of the Welsh Mountain. They faced Alderman Doebler in Lancaster on cruelty to animals after allegedly starving horses and mules and denying shelter. In default of bail they were committed to jail.
Tomorrow evening the pastor will preach an illustrated sermon on Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress. A special benevolence offering is expected during the service, which marks the start of revival meetings to be held each evening at 7 30 p m throughout the week. Everyone is invited.
Henry Baker a retired farmer near Bird-in-Hand died Tuesday night at about 9 from heart trouble in his seventy ninth year. Survived by two children Jacob and Annie. Funeral from his home then Longenecker's Church. George S. Miller aged 56 died at General Hospital Lancaster after residing twenty years in the city. carpenter by trade. Davis London a 50s year old colored laborer and broom-maker died near the Welsh Mountain Mission. Hannah Plank widow died suddenly at Graffdale aged 76 with Amish Church membership. Menno M. Fry leaf tobacco packet of Lancaster died Friday night from pneumonia at age fifty.
The Bowman estate electric light plant adjoining Michael Nolt sold for 13785.75 to H J Eby of Martindale. About 114 acres at 120.75 per acre. Kinzer two farms offered at public sale with M W Taylor and Amos Hershey as auctioneers. Duck farm 90 acres withdrawn at 135 per acre. Kinzer homestead 70 acres withdrawn at 140 per acre. Barton W Sheaffer of Ephrata bought hotel and store property in Fairland for 4950 from Monros Binsinger. Lemon Witmer buys Goodville Hotel from his father. Squire H B Slack sold Samuel Smoker farm near Intercourse at 85 acres for 170 per acre to B Frank Rutter.
Landowners in the Reidenbach area post trespass notices for fox hunters. Hunters may cross fields respectfully without damaging fences or soft ground. Unauthorized trespass will be prosecuted under the law.
The Mechanicaburg Band will host a fair opening in the old Leola Church building on Saturday evening November 20. The Canassetogo Band of Lancaster will provide music for the opening night. Many valuable articles including a $10 gold piece will be disposed of.
A Thursday Gap race drew many local entrants. Chester Brimmer and William E Harner led the field with Brimmer winning second money. Brimmer and Brimo? Brimer displayed strong efforts as spectators noted the event.
Election day passed quietly with light turnout. In New Hollandboro the Democratic ticket led by a small margin for the first time in years, while statewide and county results favored Republicans. Constitutional amendments were generally rejected in the borough, with undecided verdicts in surrounding districts.
The white ribboners met at Mrs. Harry Hammond’s home with scripture, prayer, and a report on the senior S T L reorganized by Elva G. Bair. A public meeting is planned for World Temperance Sunday November 24. Reports from the Pennsylvania convention note dry counties and membership gains. The discussion focused on women’s enfranchisement and equal suffrage with members reading and singing before next meeting at Mrs. Anna H. Rolands.
A series at Red Well Mennonite Church has been successful with Rev. John W. Weaver of Spring Grove to continue the meetings indefinitely. Evening services start at 7 with preaching at 7 30. Several confessions have been made and Sunday school meets tomorrow at 1 30 followed by preaching at 2 30. The public is invited.
Stockholders in the proposed New Holland Estate Company met in Hess Hall on Wednesday evening. Delegated solicitors cited busy schedules and an election, prompting continuation of the committee. They pledged more effort and predicted a favorable report at next Wednesday's meeting.
East Earl Cedar Grove Presbyterian Sunday School will hold rally day with a cradle roll program at 6 PM followed by a school rally at 7 PM. The public within the school’s influence is invited to attend to promote God’s kingdom. The ad ends with a cash down adage.
The boro council met with all members present. Burgesa J I urged hiring a steam roller to aid macadamized streets and removal of surplus street lights among tree branches. Finance approved 3100.48 for street work and 31615 for mavada mixing stones. A 3900 borrowing authorization passed. Highway to buy vitrified bricks and Cuater avenue grade change received first reading. Prospect street light request referred to highway committee.
Clifford Townaley visits Philadelphia for several days. Mrs Mary Charles and Miss Lydia Lehman of Lancaster visit B F Lehman and wife. John M Ranch and wife, Harry W Hammond and wife spend Sunday in Eobrata with Mrs Lucetta Boyer. Clarisgra, Numbers and Anna Hammond visit Edna Stauffer in Goodville. Mrs Elias Baby returns to Atlantic City after a month with A H Bear and family. Charles J Good and family attend Jacob Hornberger twenty fifth wedding anniversary near Neffsville, with a trip by auto.
Several Terre Hill children died of spasmodic croup found to be diphtheria after state investigation. Schools and churches in the town have been quarantined, with several homes under strict quarantine to halt spread.
Mrs Jacob H Townsley who spent weeks in Reading was given a mail surprise last Saturday for her birthday. She received a large number of messages and gifts from friends and neighbors in a community celebration.
A Cedar Grove event titled Ita Rally features day services at 7 oclock with an alarm ready. A noisy disruption occurred as participants joined the gathering and money was mentioned in relation to the situation.
