The piece recalls Memorial Day's origins in 1868 to decorate Civil War graves and honor soldiers from later wars as well. It urges flowers as a simple tribute and calls for reverence and remembrance of loved ones lost to death, marking the day with patriotic exercises and memory.
A quiet wedding took place at Trinity Lutheran church in New Holland on Wednesday morning May 24 at 9 o clock. Miss Edna M Dicker-sheid and Arthur S Ames were married by Rev B M Mountz. The bride a daughter of Mr and Mrs Rudy Dickersheid worked in the New Holland Silk Mill and served on Lancaster County Draft Board No 2 during the war. The groom is with New Holland Machine Company. After a trip to Philadelphia and Atlantic City the couple will live with the bride's parents.
The New Holland High School held its eighteenth annual commencement at Harner's Theatre on May 25. Fourteen graduates were honored, with Elizabeth Russel as salutatorian and Irene Shaub as valedictorian, as the program featured a Municipal Orchestra prelude and several student performances.
Mr and Mrs Charles Groff and others spend weekends visiting relatives in Baltimore and Lancaster. Guests at a Sunday dinner include A B Groff and Ralph Roseboro families. Attendees at a Brunswick Chamber of Commerce event include Hess Besore Groff Hess Musselman Henninger. Eastern Star card party guests and many town residents attend church and social events across Gap, Leola, Springville, and surrounding areas.
Obituary notices report Aaron W. Hoover of near Graffdale dying after a lingering heart illness at 69 years. Survived by wife and six children, funeral at Groffdale church. also listed are Mrs R H Garver of Ephrata who died of tuberculosis at 81, Jacob S Wenger of Ephrata dying at 68 with private and public services at Pike's Mennonite church.
Two silk flags arrived in New Holland on Thursday afternoon the blue American Legion emblem flag and the Star Spangled Banner. They are bordered with gold fringe and stuffed. Worshipful reverence grows at their sight for what they symbolize and for patriots who defend them. The flags will lead the Memorial Day parade as one hundred percent Americans salute the Red White and Blue.

Jacob C. Doerr owner of Doerr's Restaurant plans exterior painting and asbestos shingles on one side. He will also paint the interior and make additional improvements to the property on Main Street.
About 600 people attended a stock sale conducted by Harry Stauffer at the Styer house stables on Thursday. Bidding was brisk and fair prices were realized.

All members of Washington Camp No 40 P O S of A are invited to attend a Memorial Day demonstration in New Holland Tuesday May 30. Meet at the Camp room at 11 30 o'clock sharp.

Borough authorities urge visitors to refrain from parking machines on Main Street during the Memorial Day parade. The street will be crowded, so spectators should use side streets and nearby lots for parking.

The day includes cemetery tributes by firing squad a baseball game parade school grounds program by the Lancaster City Band and a Grand Old Time Festival with music and speeches by Gabriel H Moyer with community activities throughout the day.
The American Legion room, recently remodeled, will open to the public on Decoration Day for inspection. A friendly welcome awaits visitors and a buddy will assist. A few associate member cards remain. men 21 or over are urged to join to support the post. Associate members gain some privileges in the room.
Lew Schupp travels to Philadelphia to condition for his fight with Jack McCarron at Rossmere Ball Park in Lancaster next Monday. He trains with sparring partners and aims for victory aided by promoter Hemphill. Other undercard bouts include Diamond Jack Fasig vs Jack Reynolds and Kid Buzz vs Eddie Billman. tickets went on sale. local fans plan to attend.
Community leaders from several churches met May 22 in the Methodist Sunday School room and approved August 12 1922 for the annual picnic. The grove southwest of town was chosen as the site with plans to boost turnout and improve details to come.
