Governor Martin G Brumbaugh issues a Memorial Day proclamation urging broad observance nationwide amid war. He calls for unity, prayer, and solemn acts including bell tolling from noon to 12 05, half mast flags, and silent reflection.
A social column lists residents and visitors in a Pennsylvania town including John and Jason Rife of Bethlehem Steel, Emmer Hammond, Pauline Erisman, R. E. A party of ten traveling in two cars from south of town to Carpenter's Point Maryland met a wreck at a Baltimore and Ohio crossing near North East. John B. Thomas suffered the worst injuries with head lacerations and a severe hand cut. The Thomas car overturned on the steep curve and the others sustained minor injuries. After temporary repairs the group continued their trip with a return without further incident.

A special offering for church repairs. Evening patriotic service at 7 30 with local orders and Civil War veterans. The Stars and Stripes march in and Miss Schmobhl sings Crossing the Bar.
The class of 1917 will hear a baccalaureate sermon by Rev. Mountz at the Lutheran church on Sunday evening June 3 at 7 80 o clock. Commencement exercises are set for Friday evening June 8 at Harner's Theatre at 7 45. Ticket charts open May 31 at Harner's and tickets go on sale at Stauffer's Drug Store. General admission is 20 cents with reserved seats available. The ten graduates include Paul Graybill Lewis Hendrixson Harold Kochel Lester Kochel Elizabeth Lockard Margaret Moore Harry Oberholzer Evelyn Roseboro Jo Bark Weaver and Helen Weiler.
The Memorial Day committee asks every citizen to join in a parade and theater program to honor the nation in peril. A detailed parade schedule, divisions, routes, and a program at Harner's theatre outline community unity and patriotic observance. Veterans, bands, and scouts are invited to participate in a day of loyalty and remembrance.
Lancaster Pa May urgent appeal calls for funds to build reading writing and entertainment rooms in camps for Army and Navy men. The project, overseen by the Young Men's Christian Association, seeks local subscriptions from patriotic residents to support soldiers’ comfort health and morale during training and camps. Executives include Charles I Landis Henry K Baumgardner and others with John D Barr coordinating for New Holland and Earl townships.

Anna Zimmerman widow of Franklin Zimmerman died at 77 in East Earl home of brother-in-law Abraham Weaver. The Earl Township School Board will meet at the Styer House in New Holland on Saturday June 3 at 2 p m to select teachers for the upcoming term. Salaries range from 45 to 60 dollars per month for a seven month term. The tax rate is 33 mills.
