Pioneer hardware family serves Ephrata long with community ties

The Sprecher firm in Ephrata began as a small shop and grew with the town's population. Following the father’s retirement in 1895, the business passed to his sons including Wm Sprecher. The late Isaac Sprecher, prominent banker and Trinity Lutheran member, died leaving a wife Lizzie Mohler, a son Isaac Leonard, and a daughter Ruth wife of Lieut. Huler of Denver. Interment was at Bowman's Cemetery, Rev. J. W. Smith officiating. Prof. A. M. Longenecker of Altoona died soon after heart trouble, a Millersville State classmate noted.

Death of Reading woman noted by family and church

Mrs DeHaven died after three weeks of illness under physician care. She had lived in Reading for 24 years, worked with Levi Davis family, and earlier with his father. A faithful Trinity United Brethren church member, she left brothers and sisters G Clarence Edith E David W Jennie M R Edna and a sister Mamie who died young. Funeral held at aunt’s home 866 East Main with burial at Cedar Grove Presbyterian cemetery.

Birthday Surprise for Mrs Anna Barton at Home

Birthday events for Mrs Anna Barton included two surprise gatherings. Pupils at her school and friends from the neighborhood gathered after school on Diller Avenue, then invited her to supper at Mr and Mrs Amos Good’s home where a large group greeted her warmly. The evening featured a rich supper and numerous well wishers.

Reading couple weds at Bethany Reformed Church Ephrata

Manuel Fisher of Reading and Mollie M Givier of near Diamond Station were married Tuesday morning at Bethany Reformed Church Ephrata by Rev C Glessner. The couple planned a wedding trip to New York and other eastern cities then reside in Reading.

Local residents gather for church notices and family visits. The Terre Hill High School commencement is set for June 6 at the T U E B church with Rev Warren Skiles as speaker. Town Supervisor and crew aid road work in Martindale

A Tuesday event in Martindale saw the township supervisor and several men arrive with shovels to improve local roads. A forthcoming United Evangelical Sunday program and children's day entertainment were announced for a later date. Many residents attended the gathering hosted at the Ream home near Reynt Voganville.

The New Holland base ball club starts its season with a home game against Lancaster A. A. today May 24. Manager Wallace sorts the material. admission is 26 cents including tax. Lineup features Weaver, Geist, Erb, Wright, Good, Rhoads, Davis, Bair, Kochel, Ames on the mound.

Commencement Week at Ourboro High School

Lillian Walker Tops Harner’s Theatre in New Play

Admirers can see Lillian Walker tonight as Fran in Love Hunger at Harner’s Theatre. The film stage story places a circus child in the home of evangelist Hamilton Gregory with a romantic thread featuring L. S. Shumway. Supporting players include Bert Prior Allene Hale Stanley Orr Andrew Arbuckle and Lydia Knott. A comedy is also planned with showtime at 8 o’clock.
