A diesel powered plant at the Amos K Stoltzfus quarry near Maxwell Hill between Churchtown and Morgantown burned Wednesday at about 9 am. The blaze destroyed the crusher and weighing equipment building and storage bins with losses around 25000 dollars. Firefighters from Morgantown Elverson Churchtown Honey Brook and Blue Ball responded and laid 4500 feet of hose to Conestoga Creek due to blocked fields and grain crops.

Mrs Annie E Dissinger of the borough received word from the 86th Infantry Division that her son Corporal John L Dissinger of Company C Medical Battalion earned the Bronze Star for rescuing people and extinguishing a fire after an ammunition dump blast near a collecting station in May 1944 in Italy.
