Liberty Fire Company volunteers prepare to dedicate their new fire house on Saturday May 20 at 7 00 pm. The program committee promises an outstanding dedication. The Ladies Auxiliary will march before the ceremony and all firemen are urged to join the parade forming at 6 45 pm on South Roberts Avenue.
New Holland Schools start a town P T A with an inaugural meeting set for Friday May 19 at 8 p m in the high school auditorium. President Ellis H Metford announced a membership drive and noted a follow up meeting planned this year. Dr Paul Z Rummel will speak on helping youths solve problems with music by fourth through sixth graders provided under William Swackhamer.
Dr Ellis H Metford describes the aims and structure of the newly formed Parent-Teacher Association as Rotary Club members listen. Rev C B Starr resigns as club president after being transferred to Palmyra E C Church and is thanked for his leadership. Charles J Bennett Jr from Mt Joy Club attends as a visiting Rotarian. Borough Manager Thomas H Rile attends as a guest of Clair Musselman.
I thank friends relatives and organizations for the cards flowers fruit and gifts sent during my illness.
Supt. George S. Good issued a call for women with nursing experience to volunteer as aides for ambulance calls on Sundays and after hours on weekdays. The Machine Company and Frank II and Sons supply aides during weekday hours. Contact Mr. Good to volunteer.
A nationwide movement launches the Ecumenical Register of Church Women to enroll one million participants by November 1, 1950. Sponsored by the United Council of Church Women, the program funds inter denominational work with a dollar registration and a dedication card. The effort culminates at the UCWC Biennial Assembly in Cincinnati November 13 to 16, with the Pennsylvania Council of Church Women coordinating activities locally in Harrisburg.
Lions Club members heard Borough Manager Thomas H. Rile urge stronger citizen cooperation in the ongoing Clean-up Campaign. Volunteers load dirt from gutters as trucks haul it away, with the next meeting set for the annual Father Son Daughter banquet chaired by Charles A. Lewis.
The Evangelical United Brethren Church will run a Daily Vacation Bible School from June 6 to 16 with sessions 8 45 to 11 05 each morning Transportation will be provided for small children and out of town attendees Contact Mrs Roy E Ream or Mrs Henry Swope for arrangements Closing exercises and handwork exhibit are set for Friday evening June 16 at 7 30 public invited
Earl Lodge No. 413 of New Holland will confer the second and third degrees in the lodge hall this Friday evening. Members are urged to attend and assist with degree work. Refreshments will be served.
Martin K Musser aged forty six of Stevens, R1 near Reamstown died at home Monday night after a year long illness. Survived by wife Ada Sweigart Musser and children William Leah Martin Shirley Betty Henry all at home, plus grandson and his mother in Denver R I. Also numerous siblings. Funeral at Mellinger Funeral Home Denver Friday at 2 PM, burial in Martins Cemetery.
American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 662 hosted a tea and book review for the Columbia unit and new members in the Legion social rooms. President Mrs. Robert Chain led greetings and hosting with vocal solos by Mrs. Cair Weber, dance numbers by Mrs. John Wise, a book review by Mrs. Charles Workman, accordion music by Mrs. Claytin, and refreshments. Honor guests included Mrs. Raymond Heald, Mrs. Jean McKay, and Mrs. Paul B. Dague.
Rev J W Shank a returned missionary from South America will bring the message Sunday morning at 10 o clock at the local Mennonite Church He has served over thirty years and will speak about his work with Indians at Chaco in northern Argentina A Ascension Day service May 18 7 30 p m features David Yoder Morgantown at the same church.
A student pilot at New Holland Airport attempted a demonstration with a Cub trainer that ended in a crash due to a strong downdraft. Airport manager Ernie Cedergren noted aviation’s value despite the mishap and plans to buy a new trainer. Daylight Saving Time confusion persisted as residents adjusted schedules. Johnny Horst, a faithful Bridgeville class member, promised punctuality for the lesson.
Harold E. Mobley aged 21 of 314 North Street Lancaster suffered a fractured right arm and severe bruises when the auto he rode in ran off Route 822 and overturned just east of Blue Ball around 2 a m Saturday.

Child Evangelism Fellowship of Lancaster County plans a great Children's Rally at McCaskey High School Auditorium Sunday May 14 at 2 30 p m to climax a season of Good News Clubs for city and county children. 105 weekly classes taught over the season with 3800 children, plus volunteer teachers and a training class. The event features music, a season review, and a talk by Mrs Walter A Carvin. The Good News Camp will run July 10 to 23 at Central Manor Camp Ground with 132 campers last year. Local committee includes Bard Eichelberger Elwood H Baer I Hershey Trenneman Marty F Brubaker Willis Z Esbenshad Samuel K Shhotzberger and Daniel L Meisky. Katherine Hershey directed county work assisted by Fred Lowery. Three New Holland clubs enrolled about 100 children.
The VFW Post plans a Marble Tournament on May 27 at the school grounds. Winner advances to Lancaster then Harrisburg and Eaton Rapids Michigan for a national event. Weaver Hagey presided as new commander.
The New Holland Borough Authority and Borough Council met in a joint session to discuss preliminary impounding dam plans to improve the water system. Proposals include three dam sizes with capacities of 30 million 56 million and 80 million gallons.
A chicken and waffle supper will be served at St. John’s Episcopal Church Compass on Saturday May 18 with service beginning at 4 pm.
Special closing notice indicates most New Holland businesses will shut at 7:00 p m on Saturday May 20 to allow attendees to join the dedication of the new Fire Hall housing firefighting equipment and the ambulance.
New Holland Kiwanis suspend their weekly noon meeting to back the Charter Night for the newly formed New Holland High School Key Club. The event Friday at 7 30 p m at the AmVets Home features the Key Club planning the program with sponsors invited. President Bill Roush notes it doubles as the Kiwanis first ladies night since last December Charter Night.
A trip to a Music Festival in Philadelphia is planned for June 16. Reservations advised with contact Mrs. Amos R. Good at telephone 818 R 21. Calls evenings or Saturdays.
King's Daughters Loyal Workers Circle meeting outlined plans for a lawn fete on Saturday June 10 from 3 to 9 p m on the New Holland High School front lawn. Mrs Clyde Kauffman chairs with donations to needlework flower fish pond and produce tents. Delegates head to state convention June 23-24 with fund drives and Chautauqua Scholarships supported.
The firm of Jack and Jim Maser, Inc. of Brownstown won contracts for Denver water line extension and Lebanon storm sewer work. They have begun work in Reading on a site for a new hospital, moving a large quantity of ground under a standing contract.
