Red Cross Society Organized in Lancaster Evening Meeting
A Friday evening gathering at the public school building formed a Red Cross Society with about two dozen attendees. Dr. Paul R. Wentz was named president, Mrs Dr A Stoffman vice president, Anna Rutter Barton secretary, J. Morris Smith treasurer, and Rebecca Slaymaker of Lancaster shared an explanatory talk on goal and work. Committees were formed to recruit members, and another meeting was planned for the following evening.

Locust Root 39 Feet Long Shown From Miller Cedar Field
A locust tree butt 24 inches in diameter yielded a main root of 2 inches across and 39 feet long, with at least ten feet torn free during removal. The tree grew on M. M. Miller’s Cedar Field near Green Bank, and was pulled from the ground by traction engine as he clears the field.

Child Shot By Brother In Columbia Family Shock
Elizabeth Splain eighteen months old daughter of Mr and Mrs George Splain of 822 North Fourth street Columbia is in Columbia hospital after being accidentally shot in the head by her brother Saturday afternoon. The lead ball lies at the center of her brain but she shows no ill effects and is in good humor and sleeps peacefully.

Attempted Paris green suicide by local resident
F W Oehme a well known resident of this boro employed by New Holland Machine Co attempted to take his life last Sunday evening by Paris green. He had been drinking heavily and after a day in bed arose paced the floor hurried to the stable returned, drank water, and told his wife he had taken a dose. Dr J A Hoffman gave an emetic and he was rushed to Lancaster General Hospital where he remained in critical condition for about a day and is slowly recovering. He is in his forty third year with a wife and five children.
