Professor Karl Wager of the First Reformed church Lancaster has been selected to direct the music for the Bi Centennial Celebration of New Holland. Two rehearsals show progress. all singers in New Holland and nearby are invited to attend rehearsals at 7:30 each evening at the arch.
An evening display highlighted improved quality and breadth of student projects across grades. Junior High girls impressed with home making notes and dresses showing neat craft, while boys showcased woodwork including racks, tables, book shelves, and tool boxes. A notable Roman age exhibit also featured among the displays.
The Woman's Christian Temperance Union of this borough held its silver medal and essay contests at the High School Auditorium on Friday and Thursday evenings. Winners included Gladys Overly for the silver medal and Mary Mentzer first in Junior High with Florence Asner second. Alta Hoover won the High School first prize and Allen Ranck the second. Judges were Mra Barton, Prof D W Geist, and R N Bowers with Dr H V Givler substituting. An Edna Coffroad reading and a mixed quartet plus the high school orchestra complemented the program. Next meeting is May 15 at Mrs BE C Diller’s home.
A 13th birthday party was hosted Sunday from 4 to 9 PM at Miss Evelyn Plotnick’s home in the borough. Guests included Miss Eleanor Harshman of Lancaster, Mr. Sam Plotnick and family, and other friends. decorations featured national colors with games, refreshments, and a program of pictures and music.
The bride wore a beige chiffon gown with matching hat and carried a bouquet of Spink carnations and ferns. A reception followed at the bride’s home with guests including Mr and Mrs John Johnson and other local couples from Blug Ball Knauertown and Terre Hill. Table decor featured pink reminis and spring flowers. many gifts were bestowed on the couple.
A large wedding ceremony was held at the Hoover residence in Lancaster County uniting Evelyn Hoover and Elvin Bair. Bishop Benjamin Weaver presided. Attendants included Aaron Hoober and Esther Snyder. A feast followed as the couple planned a later honeymoon pending the illness of the groom’s father.
The semi monthly meeting at Trinity Lutheran church reported 29 mothers 36 babies and 6 visitors. Five new registrations raised total local registrations to 236 with new entrants Joseph Hogarth June Hogarth Jay Stauffer Seree Schuler and Carl Schuler. Dr John A Hoffman led with Miss Martha C Hauck assisting. Next clinic set for May 17 from 2 to 4 PM.
The first local baseball game of the year, scheduled for Tuesday evening, has been postponed.
The store thanks the public for liberal patronage during the first week of its 18th anniversary sale. Big savings are promised with a new shipment of Webster's dictionaries to be given Friday and Saturday. Extra salespeople will assist customers.
