A long list of residents and visitors in Lancaster and surrounding towns is noted. Individuals and families from Blue Ball, Denver, East and West Reading, Ephrata, Intercourse, Honey Brook, and other locales are mentioned visiting relatives, attending events, or spending weekends in town.
Lancaster Greater Minstrel Association under George E. Prince presents a patriotic show with fifteen men, end men, and multiple acts including solos, choruses, comedy and a sketch Over the River Charles. Doors open 7 15, show at 8 15, admission 25 85 50 cents. May 16William Russell star of photo drama in The Sea Master a new American Mutual production.
Passengers on an Adamstown trolley crossed a sagging Conestoga River bridge at Eden during repair work. The span dipped about four inches, forcing a temporary walk across cross ties until boards were laid. Service resumed by 7 PM after safety path was created.

The third Liberty Loan drive raised over four billion dollars nationwide, with Lancaster city and county exceeding its five million dollar allotment to surpass seven million. New Holland and Earl township reports show strong totals, aided by Boy Scouts who organized a ten-bond or more push and earned medals for top sellers. The effort highlighted community support and local leaders urging continued participation through the closing night.
Carpenters began last week on a two story 20 by 140 feet ice plant for Paul B. Hess to serve the town and surrounding communities. The 17 by 38 by 4 foot freezing tank, weighing about seven tons, was hauled from Lancaster by Newton Martin. The plant uses nearly all new equipment and aims to produce high quality ice by June 1.
Eleven year old Sarah Wilhelmina Frantz daughter of Mr and Mrs William A L Frantz of 61 West End Avenue Lancaster was struck by an automobile on Thursday evening while riding a bicycle on West End Avenue. The car driven by Howard Petrie of 285 Charlotte Street stopped at once and the child was rushed to St Josephs Hospital where she died.
Corporal Martin L. Moore writes in a dug-out near the front about his first trench experience April 1 1918. He describes ducking shells learning to mimic French poilus, enduring independent combat, and noting American endurance and a potential turning point in the war. He mentions seven day furloughs, new address, and requests tobacco and sweets be sent to his sister Minnie Moore.
A Sunday blaze of unknown origin gutted a 30 by 40 foot frame barn on Elmer Landis property in Millersville. Firefighters with two chemical engines saved livestock but feed hay straw and tools burned. Loss about 600 dollars with partial insurance. The cause remains a mystery after a past larger barn fire two years earlier.
The Sacrament of the Lord's Supper will be celebrated at Trinity Lutheran Church on Sunday morning May 19. Preparatory services are planned for Friday evening May 17, with a second Sunday morning service at 10 15 for those unable to attend Friday.
Miss Anna Jarvis urges World Mother’s Day members to wear thrift stamps on May 12 replacing carnations. She promotes lending money to the government via War Savings Stamps and urges gifts of war savings certificates. Governor Brumbaugh proclaims May 13 to IX as Pledge Week for War Savings in Pennsylvania with the governor to start by buying stamps.
In wartime urgency, voters are reminded of a May 21 primary to select candidates for governor lieutenant governor secretary of internal affairs and other offices. Prohibition of the liquor traffic looms as a key issue for the state legislature to decide on National Prohibition amendment adoption.

Clayton L Wenger two year old son of Mr and Mrs Christian L Wenger of near Intercourse drowned in a farm spring Tuesday morning around 10. His disappearance prompted a search and funeral services followed at his parents home and Hershey Mennonite church. About 1000 day old chicks are shipped daily from the Lancaster post office.
Multiple obituaries recount deaths in Murrell, East Cocalico, Leacock, and surrounding townships. Notables include Adami Espenscheid Espenseheid aged 69, Michael W. Hainley aged 44, Susanna Herr aged 67, Susanna Messner aged 84, Abram Rach, Lydia Meosparran Zell aged, Harrold Burd Burkey aged seven, and Carl Montgomerie Burd. Knitting and sewing departments listed with items made from New Holland and Blue Ball. A May parade in Lancaster is urged with large turnout from New Holland.
The Lancaster Red Cross Chapter requests a large turnout for a city parade next Saturday to inaugurate the Red Cross drive. Men and 48 women should form a line, with the march starting at 2 PM and those from New Holland reporting to Mrs. A R Barton by tomorrow.
