Fire in Aaron Hooker’s stable in New Holland
A stable on Second Street in New Holland caught fire around 8:25 AM. D. R. Kendig raised the alarm after seeing smoke from the second floor, and nearby fire companies and the New Holland Machine Company helped extinguish the blaze. The fire damaged the weather boarding and northeast roof while the building’s metal roof and ladders limited the damage. The cause is not established, with a possible match left near stored papers and not hay. Owner Aaron Hooker was away at Union Stock Yards in Lancaster when it started.
